The Center for Convergent Bioscience and Medicine (CCBM) at The University of Alabama is a leading academic research center that advances entrepreneurial thinking, dedicated to promoting innovation and translational life science research, for a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders within UA community, and across state, national, and international arenas.

CCBM is committed to developing novel therapies for immuno-inflammatory diseases by adopting an integrated approach combining innovative drug delivery strategies with new drug-discovery and drug-repurposing. In doing so, the CCBM enhances translational life-science research support to scholars and, with public and private agency partners for research, entrepreneurship, and educational activities.

The mission will be accomplished through the following:

1. Partnership: seeking, establishing, and developing long-term research relationships within UA, and externally. 
2. Research Excellence: fostering a thriving scientific community, adhering to the highest ethical standards and professional best practices. 
3. Re-envisioning Translation: pursuing a multi-pronged approach encompassing drug discovery and repurposing, underpinned by state-of-the-art delivery technologies, to demonstrate preclinical proof of concept in human and animal diseases.
4. Multidisciplinary Research Training: providing a unique environment to train the next generation of scientists within a multi-disciplinary setting to meet the changing paradigms in an evolving pharmaceutical industry.

CCBM’s mission to meet the current and the near future needs will be accomplished by adopting an “openness to emerging paradigms” in the life/translation sciences, so that UA and the Alabama Life Research Institute’s strategic goals are best met in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
